To apply for a User Account (Nutzungskennung) follow

  • the link User Application on the Portal NHR@ZIB. In the course of the account establishment a scientific consultant is assigned to you.
  • Holding a User Account you can submit a project proposal for a compute project on the Portal NHR@ZIB.

Properties of a User Account

A User Account is attached to two different properties, a Test Project for compute time and an account for the operation system.

Test Project and compute time

  • Holding a User Account you are able to expend compute time within the limitations of a Test Project. At the beginning of each quarter, the Test Project is granted by 75 k core hour during the lifetime of the User Account. In reasonable and exceptional cases, the grant of the Test Project can be extended to 300 k core hours per quarter. For that, please contact your consultant. At the end of each quarter all remaining core hour in the Test Project are dropped.
  • With the User Account you have access to the accounts of all compute projects in which the user account is a member in.

Account for the operation system

  • Holding a User Account you are able to work on the compute systems at NHR@ZIB, and to expend compute time within the limitation of a Test Project. Such a Test Project (a personal account) holds a limited amount of computing time.

containing core hours. Both accounts, the user account and the bank account, share the same name but their purpose is different. The user account is the account of the Linux operation system and is used for authorization and access control incl. permissions to data files. The bank account is to limit the computing time.

Policies for a User Account

Please note the following limitations for using NHR resources:

  1. The NHR regulations limit the access to NHR resources to scientists at German universities under public law (see NHR Alliance, Computing Time / NHR-Verein, Rechnernutzung).
  2. Due to export control, the NHR systems are not accessible for people originating from certain countries. For details, please read the document Supercomputer und Exportkontrolle of the BMBF and the information on the Portral NHR@ZIB.
